Testimonial :
"Buddies4Math offers Castro at-risk students the opportunity to experience math as a recreational activity, not just a class at school. Dedicated volunteers from local middle and high schools work in small group activities in math concepts and applications with third and fourth graders every Friday afternoon. Our students look forward to the session and it's amazing to see how excited and engaged they are in math. Not only has the program changed student's attitudes and improved their confidence about math, but their math achievement on state tests has also improved. Our Latino students gained 64 points on the API last year, contributing to a 43 point gain for the school."

Eric Foster awarded Local Government Grant to Purchase New Supplies, Including New Common Core-Oriented Games for Buddies4math

Buddies4Math Program Director Eric Foster and Jose Perez Sanchez of the City of Palo Alto Mitchell Park Community Center pose with a few of the new packages funded by the grant.

Buddies4Math students will enjoy new Common Core-aligned games and instructional materials in addition to new classroom supplies after Program Director Eric Foster won an $850 government grant to supplement existing materials at Buddies4Math. The funds have been used to purchase a variety of new items for the program, ranging from whiteboards, pens, and erasers to new math games and Common Core curriculum packs. Students will be excited to hear that 8% of the grant went toward new prizes for the biannual Math Carnival (notice the Chomping Teeth in the picture below!).

We are excited to use these new supplies in the classroom to increase student learning and engagement (as well as make progress with the new Common Core State Standards in math) but are also excited by this additional validation of our program's success. We are honored and grateful to be receiving this large amount of support. The new supplies will be on hand when Buddies4Math opens for the fall session next week -- see you soon!
